KXIP vs RR – IPL 2020 Match 9 Review

As a cricketing fan, on a Sunday evening, watching favourite Indian Premier League, nothing more we can except what we witnessed in the 9th Match of Indian Premier League 2020 between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Do you remember the excitement we felt when Sachin Tendulkar hit fours and sixes against the Australian bowlers in Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the year 1998. That was the excitement and entertainment we felt on Sunday in the match between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR).

It was the highest Run chase in the History of Indian Premier League 2020. Rajasthan Royals chased the target of 223 in 19.3 overs with fabulous batting display from SPD Smith (50 of just 27 balls 7 fours and 2 sixes), SV Samson (85 of 42 Balls, 4 fours and 7 sixes) and R Tewatia (53 of 31 Balls 0 fours and 7 sixes).

The Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field first. Kings XI Punjab displayed the beauty of batting at Sharjah Cricket Stadium by hitting fours and sixes all around the ground. Kings XI Punjab Captain KL Rahul once again showed his class of batting with 69 Runs in 54 balls with 7 fours and 1 Six.

But the star from KXIP was Mayank Agarwal who batted brilliantly and showed class in hitting fours and sixes. He scored 106 runs in just 50 balls with the strike rate of 212.00. Out of 106 he smashed 82 runs in fours and sixes ( 10 fours and 7 sixes). In the last Pooran added 25 runs in just 8 balls with one four and 3 sixes, helping them to reach 223/2 in 20 overs.

Kings XI Punjab Batting:

KL Rahul (69 of 54 Balls with 7 fours and 1 Six)
MA Agarwal (106 of 50 Balls with 10 Fours and 7 Sixes)
GJ Maxwell (13 of 9 Balls with 2 fours)
N Pooran (25 of 8 Balls with 1 Four and 3 Sixes)

In reply to the huge target of 223, the Rajasthan Royals lost the early wicket of JC Butler for just 19 Runs of the board. But SPD Smith and SV Samson had a quick and brilliant second wicket partnership of 81 Runs. They maintain the run rate of 10+ when they both are batting.

After the fall of SPD Smith, getting runs got slowed down and the Run rate kept climbing. One side SV Samson was hitting fours and sixes with ease and on the other side R Tewatia struggling to get the runs. In his first 13 balls he managed to make only 5 runs.

Samson got out when the score was 161 in 16.1 over on the board and they still have to get 61 runs in 23 balls.

We can say the turning point of the match was the 18th Over bowled by Cottrell, Tewatia got 5 sixes in this over and in the next over Archer got 2 sixes and Tewatia hit another 6 in the same over.

Till the 17th over, people thought the match was gone from the hands of Rajasthan Royals, but it turned into their favour within a few minutes. Upto then Commentators and Social Media were completely talking about the slow batting of Tewatia, in 4 to 5 minutes he became a hero for Rajasthan Royals and people started praising him all over the Social Media.

“This is the beauty of Cricket, this is the beauty of TWENTY TWENTY. Which turned the tables or Odds in a few minutes.”

Rajasthan Royals reached the highest IPL target with three balls in spare.(in 19.3 overs). Rajasthan Royals made history in chasing the highest target (226) in Indian Premier League tournament.

Rajasthan Royals won the 9th Indian Premier League 2020 match with 4 wickets in hand.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

13th Edition of Indian Premier League 2020 already witnessed the high score match on Tuesday i.e 22nd September 2020. Rajasthan Royals Scored 216/7 in 20 overs and in reply Chennai Super Kings made 200/6 in 20 overs.

RR had a very good second wicket partnership between SPD Smith (69) and SV Samson (74) which laid a good foundation score of 216. The end for Rajasthan Royals was spectacular with back to back 4 sixes from JC Archer helped to reach that score. In 20th Over RR scored 30 Runs with 4 continuous sixes.

Rajasthan Royals would have expected more runs due to a good stand between Smith and Samson, however due to collapse in the middle order their expectation got changed.

Rajasthan Royals Batting Details:

  • YBK Jaiswal (6 of 6 balls)
  • SPD Smith (69 of 47 balls)
  • SV Samson (74 of 32 balls)
  • DA Miller (0 of 0 balls)
  • RV Uthappa (5 of 9 Balls)
  • R Tewatia (10 of 8 Balls)
  • R Prag (6 of 4 balls)

In order to reach a huge score Chennai Super King started brilliantly with the first wicket partnership of 56 runs between Shane Watson and M Vijay in 6 overs. But the wickets continue to fall with small partnership and the run rate continuously increases. Brilliant batting by F du Plessis didn’t help CSK to reach the target ( 72 of 37 balls with 1 four and 7 sixes). Captain Cool MS Dhoni hit 3 sixes in the last over, by then it was too late to win the match. Overall CSK batted well to give a tough competition to the huge score.
